In 1999, the prospects for boatbuilding in Switzerland were not rosy. Wooden boats and yachts were increasingly being built abroad. As a result, there was hardly any demand for wooden boats in Switzerland. It was precisely at this time that the Alegna company was founded.
From wooden boat to bathtub
Today, the former boat builder constructs the baths of high-calibre yachts in his manufactory. But not only that, because the history of the Alegna manufactory includes a brilliant innovation: wooden bathtubs that are created like moulded wooden boats.
In retrospect, the development of the Alegna tubs sounds logical: What works in boat building can also be used in the bathroom. After all, people have been building wooden boats and crossing rivers, lakes and seas with them for ages. The advantages of moulded wooden boats have been used in boatbuilding for more than 50 years.
Alegna = wooden bathtubs
But wooden bathtubs? Until then, only solid wood bathtubs were available. These are expensive to maintain and require a large amount of wood. Thanks to their solid feel and look, they fit perfectly into a detached log cabin. But definitely not in a modern bathroom.
Over a period of three years, Thomas Löpfe developed the process from boat building to bathtub size. The result is still visible today: beautifully shaped baths and a stunning look. Bathtubs and matching washbasins for true aesthetes. And both the shape and the type of wood can be freely selected.
On the occasion of its 25th anniversary, Alegna contacted its very first customers. The first tubs are still in use and one customer proudly reported that the tub looked ‘just like on the first day’. Thomas Löpfe is not surprised. After all, he was convinced from the outset that his tubs were particularly durable. So it comes as no surprise that all products come with a 10-year guarantee on appearance and function.
Alegna stands for high-quality wooden bathtubs
Over the past 25 years, Thomas Löpfe has invested a lot of time in the further development of his products. This has made it possible over the years to produce the tubs in the usual quality without increasing prices. The manufacturing process has been further refined. It is therefore not surprising that Alegna has specialised in wooden bathtubs for 25 years.
